NAOA — Accessories packshots
Before committing to the full job, NAOA was offered a free test shoot to confirm the style and colour accuracy would hold up. They saw the results and signed off on the full shoot. A packshot shoot for their apple leather accessories range — clean studio photography on white, with one priority above all: colour had to match the real product exactly. Every shot was checked against the physical item, and the leather’s texture had to read clearly through the image.
The Brief
NAOA needed packshots for the launch of a new range of apple leather accessories, shot and retouched to match their existing packshots on their website: composition, shadow style, and colour all needed to be consistent so the new range looked like a continuation of the catalogue, not a separate shoot. With the launch date set, 33 packshots were shot and retouched within the required turnaround.
The Approach
We shot the products with studio lights that were angled and diffused, avoiding overhead light that would flatten both the shadow and the grain of the leather. Using a large, soft source rather than a small, hard one also meant a soft-edged drop shadow consistent with NAOA’s existing website images, while reducing the specular highlights and glare a more direct light source would create. Flash kept every shot sharp, and a narrow aperture kept the whole product in focus from front to back. Every image was retouched in Photoshop, colour-matched against the physical product, and dropped onto a pure white background.
