ROKA London — Back to School

A creative campaign for ROKA London's backpack range, shot at Old Street studio — yearbook-style portraits of students heading back to school after the summer holidays. The brief: show the range in a setting every parent and student instantly recognises, with a look that feels nostalgic rather than like a straight product shot.

The Brief

ROKA wanted a back-to-school campaign that felt authentic rather than staged — something that captured the actual feeling of term starting again, not just backpacks laid out on white. The yearbook-portrait concept gave us a format audiences already know and trust, built around a simple blue canvas backdrop that let the product and the subject do the work.

The Approach

Before a single frame was shot. Eight models spanning nursery through university age each needed their own arrival, hair and makeup, and individual sitting — then everyone needed to be on set together for the group shot. We built a staggered single-day schedule at our Old Street studio so every age group got proper dedicated time in front of the camera without anyone sitting around waiting, converging for a full group shot once every sitting was done.

With children on set, that meant parents and guardians present throughout, a schedule built around realistic attention spans rather than a standard adult shoot day, and a crew large enough to keep hair, makeup, and styling moving in parallel across multiple sittings rather than one at a time.
